If I want to take solace in poetry-
Going through a set of old bengalee poems of mine I liked this one and set out to translate it immediately.
If I want to take solace in poetry-
is it a way of looking away
from the reality of life?
Or a way of finding
a new meaning of life?
If I want to enjoy
the round white face of moon
on a bluish white canvas of sky-
on a full moon night,
the small pieces of white clouds
floating around
as if caressing the face.
Or if I want to feel the
cold morning breeze of early autumn
on my face.
Or I want to get
the wet feeling
of dew-soaked
green carpet of grass
under my naked feet.
If I want to get intoxicated
by the smell of Shefali flower
or simply lie down
and listen to the singing of birds
see their yellow or pink beaks,
green, yellow, blue, red
or rainbow coloured feather
with my closed eyes
Is it asking too much from life?
If I want to take solace in poetry-
is it a way of looking away
